I've been reading about buddhism and think it's great. the teachings to me just show how we should be.
Buddhism is about gaining enlightenment, in till someone gets enlightened they are born and reborn again. once enlightened they break out of the cycle of life and re life and go to a place without suffering and with perfect peace. once at this stage it is called Nirvana.
They try to reach Nirvana through meditation which is training the mind to empty it of all thoughts as this will then help important and spiritual things to become clear.
Buddhist don't believe that buddha was a god nor do they worship him as one. they see him as a man, the only difference is that he was an enlightened man who teached others how they too can become enlightened.
these are things buddha tought them.
3 signs of living.
the way Buddha described life
# Nothing in life is perfect. ( dukkha) It includes things like being bored and uncomfortable, and everything which is not satisfactory.
# Everything in life - even solid things such as mountains - is changing, all the time.
(anicca)
# There is no soul. (anatta) Instead, the Buddha taught, what does carry on to the next life is a person's life force (Karma). The Karma can be good or bad, depending on how the person lives in this life.
4 noble truths
First Noble Truth?
Dukkha: Suffering exists:
The first truth is that life is suffering i.e. life includes pain, getting old, disease, and ultimately death. We also endure psychological suffering like loneliness frustration, boredom, fear, embarrassment, disappointment and anger.
WSecond Noble Truth?
Samudaya: There is a cause for suffering.
The second truth is that suffering is caused by craving and the needing to control things. It can take many forms: the desire for fame; the desire to avoid unpleasant sensations, like fear, anger or jealousy.
Third Noble Truth?
Nirodha: There is an end to suffering.
The third truth is that suffering can be overcome and happiness can be attained; that true happiness and contentment are possible. lf let go of our craving and learn to live each day at a time (not dwelling in the past or the imagined future) then we can become happy and free. We then have more time and energy to help others. This is Nirvana.
Fourth Noble Truth?
Magga: In order to end suffering, you must follow the Eightfold Path.
The fourth truth is that the Noble 8-fold Path is the path which leads to the end of suffering.
rules and marols
* Do not take the life of anything living. (Do not kill)
* Do not take anything not freely given. (Do not steal)
* Abstain from sexual misconduct and sensual overindulgence.
* Refrain from untrue speech, (Do not lie) * Do not consume alcohol or other drugs. The main concern here is that intoxicants cloud the mind.
Quotes that i reall liked from Buddha
Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who envies others does not obtain peace of mind.
Buddha.
Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.
Buddha
No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.
Buddha
The tongue like a sharp knife... Kills without drawing blood.
Buddha
We are formed and molded by our thoughts. Those whose minds are shaped by selfless thoughts give joy when they speak or act. Joy follows them like a shadow that never leaves them.
Buddha
We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.
Buddha
You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.
